TRAININGS

   Planning and conducting production oriented, need based short and long duration training courses both on campus as well as in the villages for various target groups like practising farmer/ farm women, rural youth and field level extension functionaries with priority on the weaker and the poor is one of the important mandated activity of the KVK. KVK, Jorhat since its inception had been conducting on and off campus trainings in various disciplines like crop production, horticulture, soil science, plant protection, fishery science, animal science, home science etc. with an emphasis on "Learning by doing" for higher production on farms and generating self-employment.
   During the year 2019-20, under the crop production discipline, trainings on scientific production practices of rice, oilseeds, pulses, sugarcane, potato, weed management, nutrient management, seed treatment, seed production were conducted.
   Trainings on production technology of fruits & vegetables, spices, organic cultivation of spices were conducted under the discipline of horticultural crops. post-harvest value addition in fruits, vegetables & spices, component of integrated farming system, nursery raising, floriculture, propagation methods, pruning, thinning etc. were imparted. Trainings in horticulture encouraged several farmers to start commercial horticultural crop ventures like Bhutjolokia (king chilli) farming, banana and Assam lemon plantations, kharif and rabi vegetables, floriculture etc.
   Trainings on IPM, ITK, pesticide application, care and handling of pesticides application equipment, Mushroom cultivation, bee keeping, storage pest management, application of bio-pesticides, use of Trichocard and pheromone trap etc. were imparted under the plant protection during the year 2019-20.
   Trainings in soil science influenced the farmers to adopt INM practices in cereals, oilseeds, pulses and vegetables, froitcrops, Soil health management, Production and use of bio inputs e.g. vermicompost, Azolla, microbial fertilizers etc.
   Training in animal sector made the farmers aware about the improved breeds particularly of pig, goat, duck and backyard poultry. This skill up-gradation led to large scale adoption of various animal ventures by the farmers. Farmers started adopting improved poultry birds like Vanaraja, Khaki Campbell and Chara- Chambeli ducks. Cross bred piglets of Hampshire, T&D with local desi sows benefitted the farmers immensely.
